The Los Angeles patient featured in this video wanted to get rid of a shallow vertical line on the left side of her face. It developed over time through smiling and laughing, which tends to stretch the skin.
Challenges of Using Dermal Fillers To Treat Fine Lines
Up until the availability of Belotero in the United States, other dermal fillers were not able to get rid of fine lines, like the one seen on this patient.
1. Juvederm and Restylane, which are both made of hyaluronic acid, can create a bluish discoloration. This is called the Tyndall effect. When small particles are suspended in a transparent medium, light rays passing through will become refracted.
2. Radiesse, which is made of calcium based microspheres, can cause a white ridge to form.
These older fillers require deep injections, which will not affect fine lines etched on the surface of the skin.
Why Belotero Is Able To Address Fine Lines
Belotero is also made of hyaluronic acid. However it is processed according to a new type of technology. This causes the molecules to form unique cross linking patterns with one another. As a result, Belotero’s structure is different from the particulate forms of other hyaluronic acid fillers.
Belotero is lighter, elastic and distributes more evenly when it is injected. These properties allow it to be injected close to the skin’s surface so that it can fill shallow creases in the skin.
Different Types of Belotero
There are three different concentration levels available:
1. Belotero Soft
2. Belotero Balance (also known as Basic)
3. Belotero Intense
Currently, Belotero Balance has been approved by the FDA.
Superficial Smile Line Disappears After Belotero Procedure
The patient is shown three weeks after her procedure.

White line marks the location of the vertical smile line that the patient sought to address. This is compared with a photo of her final results.*

Vertical fine line used to be visible on the patient’s face. But this is no longer the case after her Belotero treatment.*
Los Angeles Patient’s Feedback on Her Belotero Treatment
She remarks, “Even when I smile, it [vertical wrinkle] does not come back, like there is more flesh there.” And she adds, “This was very easy to handle…very minor bruising, no swelling, no itching…really no side effects.”
In most cases, there is no downtime. Patients are able to resume their normal daily activities right after their procedure.
